Santa Barbara County is in for a double feature of wind and rain this week.

The National Weather Service has issued high wind advisories for the region through Monday night.

The NWS is warning residents to be cautious of winds between 25-35 mph, according to Ryan Kittell, a meteorologist with the agency. The advisory is also warning of gusts up to 50 mph.

Kittell said that Tuesday should be quiet throughout the day, but Santa Barbara County residents can expect some rain later in the week with a 20% chance of thunderstorms.

“We’re looking at kind of a one-two punch in terms of rain starting Wednesday (in the) early morning through the day and then another one on Thursday,” Kittell said.

Overall, the NWS is expecting about half an inch to an inch of rain for Santa Barbara County.

Kittell said that the rains should be beneficial to the region, but the storm could flood roads. He warned residents to be careful if they hear thunder and be careful on the roads.

“Just be aware,” Kittel said. “Most likely it won’t produce a lot of big impacts but just be weather aware and be aware of your surroundings in case you start to see lightning or hear thunder. It’s always good just to go inside until the storm passes because it’s the safest place to be.”

The agency is also keeping an eye on the area where the Lake Fire occurred last year in case of debris flows. However, he said that they do not believe a flow is likely.

The NWS is also warning residents of high waves on west-facing beaches, like in Guadalupe and Lompoc. A high surf advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Monday for waves between 3 to 6 feet high and rip currents.
