Santa Barbara broke open a tie game with a four-run sixth inning for an 8-4 win at home over Skyline High School from Mesa, Arizona, Thursday.

The Dons were behind 4-2 going into the fifth, when freshman DH Jetner Welch hit a two-run double to tie the game.

Junior Michael Firestone led the team with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The Dons had four stolen bases. Tomas Gil hit a drag bunt single.

Junior Liam Keithley started on the mound for Santa Barbara, surrendering four runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one.

Tanner Trider came in for the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings.

“The defense cleaned things up and flashed the leather today,” Dons coach Steve Schuck said. “Kai Mault had two great plays at third. Michael Firestone made a great running catch on a ball hit in the gap.”

The Dons improve to 2-4 on the season.
