Jubilant Argentina soccer fans celebrated throughout Santa Barbara on Sunday after the country won the 2022 World Cup final against defending champion France.
At Buena Onda Empanadas, which serves as a local home away from home for Argentinians and those who enjoy Argentinian food, more than 100 people were packed into the parking lot by 7 a.m. to watch on big-screen TVs as the match was taking place on the other side of the world.
Spectators clad in Argentina’s familiar light blue and white cheered and chanted as the soccer team battled France to a 3-3 tie, then won the title during a penalty kick shootout in Qatar.
After the victory, sources told Noozhawk, the party moved to Leadbetter Beach, with many of the flag- and towel-waving fans marching there en masse. An authentic Argentinian barbecue followed along with dancing and revelry that lasted well into the afternoon.
