This year’s Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival has the theme of “Planet vs. Plastics,” with programs and activities to educate crowds on plastic-free alternatives.

Santa Barbara’s Community Environmental Council is hosting the event at Alameda Park on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival includes an eco-friendly marketplace, a plant-forward food court & beer garden, a green car show, and a public square where attendees can connect with regional nonprofits, elected officials, the Community Environmental Council, and government agencies to discuss climate change efforts.

The festival invites attendees of all ages to join in the fun, and is age-inclusive with kid-friendly activities. The kid’s corner offers educational programs to keep them entertained throughout the day.

Events such as gardening, karate, dance parties, and wand-making will be offered.

The festival will be packed with musical entertainment; artists Sofie Holt, Queentide, and The Last Decade can all be found at the festival’s main stage.

Awards will be given out to individuals who have had great impacts in environmental change. Alejandra Warren and her nonprofit, Plastic Free Future, will be awarded the Environmental Hero Award on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The CEC encourages people who plan on attending to reach the festival by foot, bike, or public transportation to reduce their carbon footprint.

Santa Barbara’s Earth Day Festival will take place at Alameda Park from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Pardall Carnival in IV on Sunday

The Pardall Carnival returns to Isla Vista on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

UC Santa Barbara’s Isla Vista Community Relations Committee, which hosts the event, said the free carnival will include food, games, raffles, a Ferris wheel, a mechanical bull, live music, and tote bags for attendees.
