Santa Barbara High’s Elina Stump put together a stellar performance to lead local athletes at the CIF Track & Field Masters Meet on Saturday at Moorpark College.

Stump punched her ticket to the State Meet in both the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles, earning fifth in the long jump at 17-11.75 and taking 10th in the hurdles with a lifetime-best time of 14.28 seconds.

“To qualify for two events out of the Southern Section as a junior is phenomenal,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said.

Malachi Johnston will join Stump as the two Dons competing in the State Meet, as he qualified in the shot put by claiming fifth place with a throw of 57-5, a lifetime best.

“That guy is a pure competitor,” Perdices said of Johnston. “Pulling out a lifetime best and qualifying on what could have been his last high school throw is so clutch.

“I’m really proud of both these kids. They walked away from this meet a year ago making plans to come back and qualify for the state meet. Lots of kids say it, it’s a lot fewer who do what it takes to follow through on it.”

Dos Pueblos

The Chargers sent a tandem of distance runners down to Moorpark for the CIF Masters Meet on Saturday.

Owen Abbott was the top finisher for Dos Pueblos, taking ninth in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:10.74. Fellow Charger Cullen Gully wasn’t far behind in that 1,600-meter race, finishing in 4:11.91 for 11th place.

Kellan Cotter rounded out the individual competitors for the Chargers in the 400-meter race, crossing the finish line in 48.08 seconds to secure an 11th-place showing.

The 4×800 relay team of Abbott, Gully, Ashton Smedly and Oliver Saleh rounded out the season by coming in 14th place with a time of 8:06.26.

San Marcos

A pair of student-athletes represented the Royals at the CIF Masters Meet on Saturday in Moorpark.

Logan Patterson Deakyne capped off his high school career with a ninth-place showing in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.92 seconds.

Meanwhile, Dalton Shupe’s season came to a close with a 13-6 mark in the pole vault, good for a tie for 13th place.
