Santa Barbara’s Kayla Day will be competing against some of the best tennis players in the world at the 2023 U.S. Open after receiving a singles main draw wild card.
This year’s installment of the Open will be played from Aug. 28 through Sept. 10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The 23-year-old Day is currently ranked at No. 96 and earned her spot in the U.S. Open after winning the U.S. Open Wild Card Challenge on Tuesday, where she accumulated 171 ranking points.
Day has been on one of the best stretches of her young career as of late, as she earned a career-best ranking of No. 94 last month. On top of this, she qualified and reached the third round of the 2023 French Open in May, which was the best Grand Slam result of her career.
This season, she has also won a pair of ITF World Tennis Tour W100 titles.
Along with Day, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, Ashlyn Krueger, Robin Montgomery, Clervie Ngounoue, Fiona Ferro and Storm Hunter also received singles main draw wild card spots.
With Day already securing a spot in the tournament, the U.S .Open Qualifying Tournament will be held from Aug. 22 to Aug. 25 at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to determine the rest of the field.
