Pepper Marks did it again for the Santa Barbara High wrestling program.

Marks repeated as a CIF-Southern Section champion on Saturday, winning the 235-pound weight class title at the Central Division Tournament at Canyon Springs High.

She also was honored as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler in the upper weights.

Marks pinned all of her opponents en route to her second championship.

Last year, she became the first female CIF wrestling champion in the South Coast area.

Sophia Slavich of the Dons finished as runner-up in her weight class and recorded the quickest fall in the tournament. In the quarterfinals, she pinned her opponent in 15 seconds.

Marks and Slavich advance to the CIF Masters Meet next weekend at Palm Springs High.

For the Santa Barbara boys, Niko Proft and Austin Dye earn berths in the Masters Meet by finishing in the top six in their weight classes at the CIF-SS Coastal Division Tournament at Westminster High.

Proft finished fourth in the 147-pound weight class and Dye placed sixth at 108 pounds

The Masters Meet for boys also will be at Palm Springs.

“Being able to bring 4 athletes is a tremendous stepping stone for the program,” said Santa Barbara wrestling coach Marc Fidel.
