To further improve public safety services, the Santa Maria Fire Department has initiated an On-Call Fire Investigator Program.

The program ensures there is a qualified fire investigator available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays for fire investigations, whether the fires are intentional or accidental.

The program increases the level of service to the residents of Santa Maria and allows firefighters to place their apparatus back into service and be available quicker for additional calls.

Currently, there are three qualified investigators in the rotation. They are typically on-call a week at a time starting at 5 p.m. Monday and ending at 7 a.m. the following Monday.
