The Santa Maria Public Airport District is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on its board of directors.

The seat held by Charles “Chuck” Adams became vacant with his resignation in late May.

The district recently extended the application deadline through 5 p.m. July 20, according to Mike Flores, manager of finance and administration.

Applicants who submitted a letter of interest during the initial window do not need to reapply since those remain on file for the board’s consideration, Flores added.

The panel intends to consider the appointment at its regular meeting starting at 6 p.m. July 23.

State law requires the remaining four board members to appoint a replacement or call for a special election within 60 days of a resignation, or by July 27.

To be eligible for the seat, applicants must be registered voters and live in the Division 1 area, which is the northern neighborhoods of Santa Maria. A map of the district’s voting divisions can by found by clicking here.

Adams’ four-year term originally was set to end in 2028.

Eligible residents may apply by submitting a brief letter of interest — including a statement of eligibility and any relevant experience or qualifications — by email to mflores@santamariaairport.com; or in person during regular business hours at the District Office, 3217 Terminal Drive, Santa Maria, CA 93455.

The airport is operated by an independent district led by a board of directors, with meetings typically held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.
