Santa Maria’s Community Programs Division has received the John A. Sasso Award from the National Community Development Association (NCDA).

The national recognition honors municipalities that demonstrate exceptional efforts in highlighting the value and impact of federal programs during Community Development Week, April 21-25.

The city of Santa Maria was recognized for its outreach efforts that included:

• Hosting a free nonprofit resource fair
• Coordinating a tenants’ rights clinic
• Receiving a proclamation from the City Council
• Publishing a special edition electronic newsletter highlighting local service agencies supported by federal funding

The city’s efforts helped spotlight the importance of Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships Program funding, both critical to improving infrastructure, expanding affordable housing, and providing essential services to vulnerable populations.

“Celebrating and promoting these programs ensures that residents better understand how federal funding directly improves their neighborhoods and quality of life,” the city said.
