A bicyclist died after he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene Sunday night in northwest Santa Maria, the same area where a pedestrian was killed a day earlier.
At about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, personnel from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments plus an American Medical Response ambulance crew were dispatched to the area of Blosser Road and Bunny Avenue, police Lt. Felix Diaz said.
A caller told dispatchers that a bicycle was in the roadway, and emergency personnel located a victim who appeared to have been struck while riding in the area.
The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene, Diaz said.
Police said it appeared the man, who was declared dead at the scene, was riding south on Blosser in the bike lane when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.
The circumstances of the crash were under investigation by Santa Maria police.
The name of the bicyclist, a man in his 50s, was not released pending notification of relatives.
Sunday’s fatal incident occurred in the area where a pedestrian from Nipomo was killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night.
