Santa Maria High School Link Crew recently participated in the 13th Annual Day of Hope, a community-wide fundraiser benefiting Mission Hope Cancer Center and its efforts to support local cancer patients and their families.

The campaign was a huge success, with SMHS students and staff raising nearly $600 for Day of Hope, organizers said.

Ahead of the event, Link Crew students built awareness across campus by decorating the school with Day of Hope posters and sharing daily bulletin announcements encouraging students and staff to bring in their $1 donation and, if possible, give a little more to support the cause.

“This is a great opportunity for our youth to get involved in their community and learn the meaning of giving,” said Adrian Salazar, activities director.

“It is important for our students to understand that even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” he said.  

For Link Crew member Samantha Solorio, a third-year member, participating in Day of Hope has become a meaningful tradition. “I look forward to this event,” she said. “It is a great way to give back to the community and start the year.”  

“Through their leadership and service, SMHS Link Crew members continue to show that school spirit extends beyond campus and that giving back to the community is an important part of being a Saint,” event organizers said.
