A Santa Maria man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, and detectives are seeking any possible additional victims.
On Jan. 18, Santa Maria Police Department detectives served search and arrest warrants on the 200 block of West Williams Street during an ongoing sexual assault investigation.
They arrested Jose Del Refugio Madrigal Leon, 53, in connection with the allegations. His name is listed as Jose Madrigal in court records.
“Two adult victims were identified in connection to this case that spans over the course of several years,” Lt. Daniel Rios said.
“Detectives believe there may be additional sexual assault victims associated to this investigation that have not reported to law enforcement.”
Three felony charges involving sexual assault have been filed in Santa Maria Superior Court against Madrigal Leon, alleging incidents in late 2023 and summer 2021.
Madrigal remained in custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $100,000.
