A man who received major injuries after suffering multiple stab wounds in Santa Maria last weekend has died.
At approximately 6:50 p.m. May 16, officers from the Santa Maria Police Department were dispatched to the In-N-Out Burger in the 1300 block of South Bradley Road for a report of a stabbing victim, Sgt. Zackary Robbins said.
Officers located a 21-year-old man with multiple stab wounds in a vehicle in the restaurant parking lot.
The early stages of the investigation revealed that the attack did not happen at the restaurant site, Robbins said.
Instead, investigators say the stabbing occurred in the 200 block of East Plaza Drive, several blocks west of the restaurant.
The victim was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
On Friday, police said they were notified by hospital personnel that the man had died due to his injuries.
The man’s name will be released after authorities notify family members about his death, police said.
A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing, police added. That person’s name was not immediately available.
The investigation into the incident was ongoing.
