A Santa Maria man sought in connection with an assault during a family dispute Sunday has been arrested following a standoff Monday.

At about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, patrol officers responded to the 1700 block of South Depot Street regarding a reported assault and family dispute, Lt. Daniel Rios of the Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau said.

Officers discovered that a man allegedly committed a felony assault against a family member, attempted to assault multiple subjects with a knife, caused significant property damage resulting in a felony vandalism charge, and brandished a firearm before leaving the scene, Rios said.

Despite an extensive search, officers were unable to locate the subject and sought a warrant for his arrest on multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, felony assault and felony vandalism.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday, patrol officers received information that Alexis Perez-Alcantar, 22, was at a residence in the 700 block of East El Camino Street.

Patrol officers responded, secured the location and began calling occupants out of the residence.

To assist in the operation, patrol officers utilized SMPD drones, SMPD and California Highway Patrol K9 units, SMPD crisis negotiators and a CHP helicopter.

“All residents and family members at the location safely exited the home,” Rios said. “However, Perez-Alcantar barricaded himself inside the garage.”

Officers engaged in more than two hours of communication and negotiations in an effort to de-escalate the situation, Rios said.

Ultimately, Perez-Alcantar voluntarily exited the residence, complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody without further incident, Rios added.

Perez-Alcantar was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on the outstanding warrant and was being held on $1 million bail.
