Two Santa Maria men have been named as the victims of a vehicle crash east of Orcutt on Monday afternoon.
Ivan Garcia-Pineda, 24, and his brother-in-law, Ricardo Mejia Flores, 35, were killed in the three-vehicle collision on East Clark Avenue, said Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau, on Wednesday.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. Monday, personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and other agencies were dispatched to the 2600 block of East Clark Avenue, east of Presquile Road, county Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
Firefighters had to extricate people trapped in the vehicle, Safechuck added.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Honda Fit was eastbound on Clark Avenue and came to a stop in lanes attempting to make a left turn, California Highway Patrol Officer Maria Barriga said Tuesday.
A 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Santa Maria resident Andres Perez was traveling in the same direction and struck the rear of the Honda.
The impact pushed the Honda into opposing traffic and the direct path of a westbound 2018 Ram truck driven by Santa Maria resident Hermenegildo Villegas Ramirez.
The truck slammed into the right side of the Honda.
The Honda passenger in the right front seat was pronounced deceased at the scene, the CHP said.
The driver of the Honda was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center where he later died due to his injuries.
Another passenger in the Honda’s back seat was critically injured and transported to the hospital. Details on the passenger’s condition were not available.
