The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department invites the community to kick off the 2026 Movies in the Park series with “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” on Friday, Sept. 18 at Machado Plaza, 224 West Chapel St.

The free, family-friendly evening begins with themed pre-movie activities at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie at dusk, approximately 7:30 p.m.

Before the screening, families can enjoy SpongeBob-themed activities, including a Krabby Patty Challenge, ocean-inspired games, crafts, and opportunities to win prizes. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to participate in the activities before the movie begins.

Following the activities, attendees can enjoy the feature film outdoors under the evening sky. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or low-back lawn chairs for seating, along with snacks and drinks to enjoy during the movie. Warm clothing is also recommended for cooler evening temperatures.

Movies in the Park is free and open to all ages and is made possible through the generous support of premier sponsor Driscoll’s Berries, along with community sponsors Vallarta Supermarkets and PLAY, Inc.
