Santa Maria Police are investigating a shooting that critically injured a juvenile Thursday afternoon.
Officers responded at about 2:30 p.m. to the 500 block of South Broadway, where they found the juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Lt. Andy Magallon.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken by AMR ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Details on their condition were not available.
“Officers immediately secured the scene and conducted an extensive canvass for witnesses and evidence while working to identify those responsible,” Magallon said. “The Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau’s Violent Crime Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation and is actively pursuing leads.”
The investigation was continuing on Friday, and detectives were seeking additional witnesses or information that may assist in identifying the suspect(s) involved.
