The city of Santa Maria is accepting applications for individuals to serve on the Block Grants Advisory Committee, Central Coast Commission for Seniors Area Agency on Aging, and Library Board of Trustees.

Deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Monday, June 15. Appointments will likely be made at the July 7 City Council meeting.
 
Applications are also being accepted for the Measure U Citizens’ Oversight Committee to fill an unexpired term ending January 2027. The post is open until filled.
 
The Block Grants Advisory Committee has five vacancies to fill with terms ending in July 2029, and/or concurrent with nominating councilmember’s term.

The Block Grants Committee assesses the community’s needs; conducts public workshops and hearings; reviews applications for funding; and makes recommendations to the City Council for the allocation of funds under the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) Program and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program.

Applicants should have an understanding of housing and community development needs, and a knowledge of or background in providing human services to the community.

Members are nominated by individual councilmembers, appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The committee meets on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Central Coast Commission for Seniors Area Agency on Aging has one
vacancy to fill a term ending July 2028.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the operations, including policy setting, allocations, and personnel for the Central Coast, such as Area Agency on Aging, HICAP, and Senior Information & Referral program.

The board serves Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. The City Council nominates one member, and the Board of Directors members are elected by the agency itself. The committee meets once a month.
 
Library Board of Trustees has one vacancy to fill a term ending in July 2029. The Library Board is a five-member body that sets library rules and regulations, and advises the City Council on library matters.

The board meets quarterly at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of February, May, August and November in the Library Conference Room. Members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council.

Measure U Citizens’ Oversight Committee has one vacancy to fill an unexpired term ending in January 2027, and/or coterminous with nominating councilmember’s term.

The Oversight Committee ensures transparency and oversight of the revenue generated by and expenses made in relation to Measure U. Funds generated independent of Measure U are outside the purview of the Oversight Committee.

Oversight Committee duties consist of reviewing the annual independent financial audit (performed by an independent auditor on the Measure U generated revenue and expenses during the previous fiscal year), as well as a review of any other city financial reports necessary to advise the City Council of its findings.

The committee’s findings are presented annually in a written report to the City Council during the first quarter of the calendar year. The written report is based on the previous fiscal year ending June 30.

Members must live within city limits and cannot be current city of Santa Maria employees, officials, contractors, or vendors of the city. Past employees, officials, or vendors may be eligible to serve on the committee, provided no conflicts of interest exist.

Meetings are held annually on the fourth Monday of January, and one special meeting in February on a date to be determined.
