The name of the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle in Santa Maria has been released.
Cecilia DeJesus, 69, of Santa Maria died after being critically injured in the incident last weekend, Santa Maria police said Friday. Police initially said she was 68 years old.
At approximately 6:15 p.m. Jan. 4, police officers responded to pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the interaction of West Main Street and Russell Avenue, Sgt. Shane Armstrong said Sunday.
They located the injured woman in the eastbound lanes of Main Street.
An American Medical Response ambulance crew transported the woman to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment, but officers later learned she had died from her injuries.
The driver involved in the incident, whose name was not released, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with officers, Armstrong said.
The incident remains under investigation by Santa Maria police, Armstrong said.
