Santa Ynez boys and girls wrestling each picked up victories over Cabrillo on Wednesday, with the boys coming out on top 42-27 and the girls winning by a score of 42-24.
With the win, the Pirates remain undefeated in dual meets and will look to finish off the season perfect next Wednesday against Nipomo to become league champions for the first time since 2011.
“All of the credit goes to our athletes for making the tough choices and taking on the challenges required to win each dual,” Santa Ynez coach Raul Sandoval said. “I’m proud of our athletes for putting the team ahead of themselves when necessary.”
Girls
The girls dominated Cabrillo, thanks in part to six wins coming thanks to forfeits.
Ariela Contreras (127) and Kylie Franson (157) picked up individual victories for the Pirates, taking down their opponents with pins.
Boys
The boys team also cruised to the win and earned a trio of wins thanks to forfeits.
Hayden Pahler (152) and Kaj Kretzschmer (177) each went the distance in their bouts and came out on top by way of decisions.
The Pirates then earned three wins off of pins, as Santino Alvaro (134), Neal Cunningham (142) and Ben Flores (159) dominated their opponents.
