The Santa Ynez girls basketball team lost to Matilda Torres High, 47-39, in the second round of the CIF Central Section playoffs.

Helina Pecile had a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Pirates.

I’m very proud of this young team. They exceeded our expectations and competed with their heads high,” said coach Jennifer Rasmussen. “We couldn’t get into a rhythm tonight, losing a seven-point lead with five minutes left.

“We appreciate the support from our families, fans, school, alumni and our community. We are excited to start working hard off season, and the girls now have a taste of what CIF is like for next year. This young team will be someone to watch out for.”
