Santa Ynez girls golf pulled out a tight non-league battle with San Marcos on Tuesday at Alisal River Golf Course, a par 36 course.
The Pirates combined for a team score of 272 to finish just three strokes ahead of the Royals’ score of 275.
“We lost a close match to a competitive team today,” San Marcos head coach Sarah Ashton said. “The girls were a bit disappointed with the finish, but showed nice persistence during a difficult round.”
Santa Ynez’s Savannah Hurley and San Marcos’ Mia Rocha finished tied atop the leaderboard with a score of 49 to take home co-medalist honors.
Hurley was followed by teammates Caralyn Barber (50), Scarlette Ripley (53), Kacy Caplan (54) and Bella Sim (56).
The other San Marcos golfers were Chloe Bellamy (50), Simrin Singh (53), Karenna Saleh (57) and Hadley Schmidt (66).
“We have a relatively young squad this year and the girls have really high expectations for themselves,” Ashton said. “Our seniors just picked up the sport last year and continue to learn a lot each round.
“All the girls are excellent examples of good sportsmanship, even when they aren’t playing their best golf and I’m really proud of them.”
