The Santa Ynez wrestling team opened the Sean Yamasaki Era by going 4-1 at the Santa Maria Tri-Tip Duals.
The Pirates defeated San Marcos, Buena, Del Sol and Atascadero and lost against Pioneer Valley, in the coaching debut of Yamasaki, a former Dos Pueblos wrestling standout.
Individually, Neal Cunningham (157 pounds), Kaj Kretschmer (190) and Joe Duarte (285) went undefeated in their matches, while Andrew Badger (138) and Curren Lane (150) finished with 4-1 records.
In other action for the Pirates, Dylan Zepeda, Luke Kruse and Zeke Virgen went undefeated at a novice tournament at Santa Maria.
In a girls tournament, Santa Ynez competitors Dallana Margarito took first place, Patricia Silva finished second and Melody Lopez earned a third-place finish.
