Santa Ynez High boys basketball captured a 68-63 win over Carpinteria High on Friday night.
“What a great battle,” Carpinteria coach Karl Fredrickson said. “We executed our game plan well, played our brand of basketball, and got great contributions from everyone for all 32 minutes.
“There are certainly some things to tighten up but there was also plenty of next-level stuff that went down on the court tonight. We’re excited to build on that.”
Both teams got on the board early but the Pirates went on a quick run to hold a 10-point lead at 37-27 heading into the halftime locker room.
The Warriors punched back coming out of the half, outscoring Santa Ynez 22-12 in the third quarter to knot the game up at 49-49 heading into the fourth.
Both offenses took center stage in the final quarter as the two sides exchanged blows back and forth. However, Santa Ynez came up with some clutch shots down the stretch to come away with the win.
Jude Prichard led all scorers for the Pirates with a 27-point performance while Lucas Ollenburger dominated the paint to the tune of a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Meanwhile, Luke Gianis chipped in 10 points for Santa Ynez.
As for the Warriors, Carlo Suarez and Aiden Alcaraz led the way with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Sebastian and Chris Reed also had double-digit scoring nights with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Pirates will take on Bishop Diego in the Brick House on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, Carpinteria will compete in the Nordhoff Tournament in the first week of December.
