Santa Ynez High boys volleyball fell to Clairemont in five sets in the Division 3 CIF State Regional Semifinals on Thursday in Santa Ynez.

Clairemont, the San Diego Section Champions, bested the No. 2-seeded Pirates after pulling out a tight fifth set, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, 19-25, 15-13.

The sophomore tandem of Nate Biron, Anders Dietenhofer and Will Losson led the charge for Santa Ynez throughout the postseason and in Thursday night’s loss.

Biron ended with 22 kills and 14 digs, Dietenhofer collected 19 kills and nine digs, and Losson tallied nine digs of his own. Wyatt Minus also chipped in four stuff blocks, including a few in the set-two win.

In their last match, seniors Manny Sanchez and Ben Stuerman turned in strong performances with 60 assists and 19 kills, respectively.

“In the playoff run, we have been fortunate to get great production from both our seniors and a group of talented sophomores,” Santa Ynez High head coach Ronald Fenega said.

Santa Ynez capped a stellar season that featured an undefeated league championship and a CIF-CS Division 2 with an overall record of 22-4.
