“I’m proud of the girls’ continued drive to improve,” Dons coach Ryan Throop said. “This was the first time we had four scores in the 40s, lowest score on the season, and I recognize their support of one another.”

The Dons are now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play. They take on Righetti Thursday at Santa Barbara Golf Club.

San Marcos 274, Ventura 305

It wasn’t their best effort, but the San Marcos girls came away with a win over Ventura Tuesday at Santa Barbara Golf Club in a Channel League match.

The Royals’ Sophia Torrey earned medalist honors with a 54, closely followed by five teammates each shooting 55.

“Always great to get a win in Channel League, but the girls know they didn’t play their best today,” San Marcos assistant coach Aaron Solis said. “Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to move forward. And I think the team will move forward as we get into the second half of league. Our best golf is still ahead of us.

“As far as our scores today, I think I am going to go buy a lottery ticket.”
