Santa Barbara’s No. 1 singles player Heidi Hatton returned to the lineup from an injury and swept her three sets as the Dons handled Dos Pueblos 14-4 in a Channel League match Thursday.

“Heidi’s set against DP’s No. 2 Kate Scherz was a marathon in 90 degree heat,” Santa Barbara coach Danny Echt said. “It was an amazing test of will and spirit on both players’ behalf. Heidi was able to change the pattern in points which played to her advantage as Kate’s backcourt consistency was impressive.”

The Dons’ doubles team of Ashley Walsten and Charlotte Ryan “played high percentage, disciplined doubles as they swept their three sets in commanding fashion,” Echt said.

For Dos Pueblos, singles player Ellie Triplett won a 6-4 set and Kate Scherz had 6-0 and 6-2 wins for three of the Chargers’ four points.

“Santa Barbara has a strong line up in singles and doubles that pushed us today,” Dos Pueblos coach Laura Housinger said. “Many of the sets had many deuce scenarios that did not go in our favor. We are continuing to work on our games during these first experiences against each league team this season and plan on making changes for the next rounds.”

Santa Barbara is now 4-0 in league play and 6-2 overall. Dos Pueblos is 2-2 in Channel League and 4-4 overall.
