Santa Barbara’s Andreas Schuetz had a whopping 22 kills to lead the Dons to a 25-11,25-16,28-26 sweep of Santa Ynez in a Channel League match Tuesday.
Senior Liam McCaskey, playing outside for the first time, added six kills.
“Ford Harman and Diego Arroyo ran a 6-2 offense,” Dons coach Chad Arneson said. “Junior opposite hitter Austin Jaimes made some great plays and senior opposite hitter Quinton Cohen had four kills.
“Santa Ynez battled in game three and made Santa Barbara earn every point to finish. Libero Ryan Slater keeps getting better and he passed a 2.67 passing average.”
The Dons are 16-3 overall and 5-0 in league. They play Cabrillo on Thursday at home.
Bishop Diego 3, Dunn 0
Bishop Diego’s Braylon Katers had 13 kills and three aces to lead the Cardinals in a 25-9, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of Dunn in a Tri-Valley League match Tuesday.
Marcus Chan had eight kills on 13 swings, and two blocks, and three aces. Anthony Eck also had eight kills out of the middle.
Bishop Diego improves to 4-2 in TVL play.
“Dunn put up a great fight,” Cardinals coach Dillan Bennett said. “They dug a lot of balls, and frustrated our hitters.
“We were down 10-18 in game two before tying things up at 22, then we gave up an 18-10 lead when Dunn tide things up at 18. It was a match full of rallies, and we happened to finish off more rallies in the end.”
San Marcos 3, Cabrillo 0
The San Marcos improved to 4-1 in Channel League play with a 25-4, 25-19, and 25-14 sweep of visiting Cabrillo Tuesday.
Senior outside hitter Jack Garcia led the Royals’ offense with eight kills. Junior Spencer McLean followed with six kills and “had an excellent serving night,” San Marcos coach Roger Kuntz said.
“Sophomore Cameron Earls led the team at setter and Sophomore Cliff Ficker had a solid night in the middle and on defense.”
