Santa Barbara High’s boys basketball team elevated two spots to crack the top 10 in the latest CIF-SS 2A Division poll.
The Dons (10-6) are coming off a dramatic 45-43 win over San Marcos, scoring the winning basket on a last-second shot by Jasper Johnson off Stephen Davis’ lob last Friday. San Marcos (9-9) is ranked 14th in the 2A Division. Ribet Academy is the No. 1 team and Oxnard is second.
Cate (8-3), which lost a triple overtime game at Thacher last week, actually moved up five spots to ninth in the 4A Division. Cabrillo (16-6) is right behind the Rams in 10th.
In girls basketball, Bishop Diego (13-6) fell from the top spot to No. 2 behind Ganesha in the 5A poll. Dos Pueblos (11-4) is seventh and Cate (15-4) 15th in the 4A Division, while San Marcos (14-4) is 14th in 4AA.
In boys soccer, Santa Barbara (12-1-3) stands sixth in this week’s Division 1 poll. Dos Pueblos (9-3-2), which plays at rival San Marcos on Tuesday night, is ranked third in Division 2.
Dunn remains No. 1 in Division 6.
The final standings from last weekend’s Santa Barbara girls water polo Tournament of Champions determined the top five teams in this week’s Division 1-2 poll: 1, Laguna Beach; 2, Newport Harbor; 3, Foothill; 4, San Marcos; 5, Orange Lutheran.
San Marcos is 14-5 on the season after falling to Newport Harbor in the semifinals and Foothill in the third-place game.
Santa Barbara is ranked 14th and Dos Pueblos 19th.
The divisions for the playoffs will be finalized by a CIF committee on Feb. 7.
