The Coastal Housing Coalition (CHC) honored John Campanella with the Michael Towbes Excellence in Workforce Housing Award at the 6th Annual Santa Barbara Housing Conference, Oct. 2. The conference was held virtually.

Campanella, a former Santa Barbara city planning commissioner, has been a board member of the Coastal Housing Coalition Board, Garden Court, Inc. and the Paseo Chapala Owner’s Association. He is a past a president of the Homebuilders Association of the Central Coast.

Campanella holds a master’s degree in finance from the University of Denver.

“John is selflessly dedicated to our community. During his career he has transitioned from developing large suburban single-family tracts to mixed-use urban infill with a large number of affordable and middle-income residences,” said board president Olivia Marr.

“He has been a tireless advocate for workforce housing both personally and throughout his service on the city of Santa Barbara Planning Commission. CHC is proud to honor John Campanella with this award.”

The Coastal Housing Coalition is a nonprofit founded in 2005 dedicated to finding solutions to the South Coast’s housing crisis and reversing the adverse impacts of the lack of workforce housing is having on our economy, environment, and civic life.
