Nikko Carrillo led a solid performance by a group of swimmers from the Santa Barbara Swim Club at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Santa Clarita over the weekend.
The high-level meet drew more than 1,000 athletes.
Carrillo, who attends Dos Pueblos High, dropped more than three seconds off his personal best in the 200-meter backstroke to earn a spot in the “B” final (top 16).
Cooper Costello and Brynn Graham, also of Dos Pueblos, earned personal bests in their respective events. Costello earned PRs in the 400 individual medley and 100 butterfly, while Graham set best marks in 100 freestyle, 100 fly and 200 IM.
Sierra Tallman of San Marcos achieved PRs in the 200 IM and 100 fly, and earned an alternate slot in the championship final in the 200 free.
Jaran Depew finished the meet with personal bests in the 200 free, 200 fly, and 400 free.
SBSC finished in 46th place out of more than 110 teams.
