Santa Barbara City Administrator Paul Casey surprised many with his recently announced departure from City Hall.

Casey will leave on Sept. 10, in a move that has upset his supporters and pleased his critics.

Casey, once the rising star of City Hall, was appointed community development director at age 37.

The  UC Irvine graduate quickly rose to City Administrator, replacing Jim Armstrong.

Casey led the city during the pandemic, but has also faced criticism for his leadership from members of the development and business community.

In this podcast, Casey talks about his critics, explains the thinking behind his departure, and talks about the highs and lows of his time as the $280,000-a-year city administrator.

Casey opens up to Santa Barbara Talks in this exclusive interview conversation.
