Santa Barbara City Councilman Mike Jordan talks about Santa Barbara’s affordable housing policy, rent control, and plans for State Street, in the latest episode of Santa Barbara Talks with Josh Molina.

Jordan was elected to the City Council in 2019, and represents District 2 on the Mesa. He previously served nearly a decade on the city Planning Commission, and has created a reputation as a political moderate.

In this podcast, Jordan explains why he believes the city needs to build market-rate and affordable housing, and consider ways to work with the state to bring back the redevelopment agency, a funding mechanism for development and downtown housing.

Jordan also talks about the new tone and culture at City Hall with new mayor Randy Rowse.

“It’s a positive change,” Jordan said. “I don’t mean to say that in a manner that disparages anyone who might have been sitting in the seat before. I think it is just different techniques and personality, and this one right now is a positive benefit from where we are in the world.”

Jordan also talks about the plan for Fiesta, the Downtown Holiday parade, and outdoor dining on State Street.
