Goleta City Councilman James Kyriaco says that despite facing pressures on multiple fronts, he believes Santa Barbara Mayor Cathy Murillo is still the favorite on Election Day next week.
Kyriaco talks with journalist Josh Molina about the Santa Barbara mayor’s contest, City Council races, and the future of Goleta.
“Every individual voter looks at leaders different,” Kyriaco said. “The risk (Murillo) runs is if she tries too hard to share the credit, she can look weak. If she tries to put others first, she can come off as not being decisive.”
Kyriaco, a former political consultant, also breaks down the state of play in the City Council District 4 and District 6 contests.
In District 4, incumbent Kristen Sneddon faces a challenge from developer Barrett Reed. Incumbent Meagan Harmon faces Nina Johnson, Jason Carlton and Zachary Pike in the District race.
From there, Kyriaco dives into talk about the city of Goleta, including its recent vote to ban flavored tobacco products, its support of a project labor agreement, and its vote for a “reproductive freedom” resolution.

Kyriaco also talks about housing projects, park space, Old Town Goleta and a variety of other topics.
In a bonus, James and Josh talk the early 2000s, and reflect on the leadership styles of Babatunde Folayemi, Iya Falcone, Roger Horton, and others.
