Political strategist and public affairs expert John Davies dives deep on the issue of conservative political power and why it’s so difficult to find young conservative candidates in Santa Barbara County.
“Many of the leaders in the Democratic Party are willing to attack a candidate who runs as a Republican,” Davies said. “They are willing to cancel them, take them on personally, try to ruin them.”
Davies, one of the best-known and respected political minds in conservative circles in Santa Barbara County and beyond, talks about the November 2022 election, and offers his analysis of the upcoming 37th District Assembly contest, the Santa Barbara County Office of Education superintendent battle, and overall politics.
In this week’s Santa Barbara Talks podcast, Davies drops names and commentary about a variety of people, including former Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider, First District Santa Barbara County Supervisor Das Williams, assembly candidates Gregg Hart and Mike Stoker, Santa Barbara Unified School District board member Laura Capps, Office of Education candidate Christy Lozano, Daraka Larimore-Hall and many others.

Davies said there’s an 18-20 point Democratic Party registration advantage in the county, so it is very hard to win a county seat, but also talks about how everyone loses when one party controls the landscape in the state and races are often uncontested.
“Is that what the Democratic Party wants to be known for?” Davies asked. “We have the highest takes. We have surplus revenue, but we can’t deal with the poverty level, we can’t deal with the homelessness.”
