It’s a new day at Santa Barbara City Hall.

That’s according to Rene Eyerly, the new interim assistant city administrator.

Eyerly joins Rebecca Bjork, interim city administrator, in taking the reins of the city, at a time of massive transition and exodus of longtime officials.

“I am excited about the future of Santa Barbara,” Eyerly says. “We’re dealing with a lot of issues that are going to shape the city for the next 50 years.”

She said homelessness, housing, downtown, and State Street are among the immediate priorities for her and the city.

Eyerly was born in South Carolina, and worked previously in the city of San Jose.

“I like to do my work in collaboration, and by bringing people to the table to address an issue, and it matters more to be about where they sit in an organization as opposed to that attitude and perspective and experience that they are bringing,” Eyerle says.

In the podcast below, Eyerly also talks about the city’s respond to encampments by moving 58 people into the a motel, the city’s environmental efforts, and her personal story, including her love for horses and equestrian events.
