Administrative analyst Sam Ramirez has already served eight years as a publicly elected official. Now he’s looking to bring his experience to the Goleta City Council.

Ramirez is running in District 2, taking on incumbent James Kyriaco.

In this conversation with Josh Molina, Ramirez talks about his decision to run and take on Kyriaco, the man who nominated him to serve on the Goleta Planning Commission.

“I think the city could benefit from a new approach,” Ramirez said. “My appointment from the City Council was 5-0, so it wasn’t just one person supporting me.”

Ramirez said Kyriaco will have to run on his record, and not incumbency.

“We all benefit from being held accountable, going through a process, the rigors of a campaign, and at the end of the day I am going to share my vision with the 2nd District,” Ramirez said. “Other candidates can do the same and we’ll see where the voters decide to put their votes.”

Prior to moving to Goleta about five years ago, Ramirez was elected twice to the City Council in the city of Delano.

“I love public service,” Ramirez said.

In this podcast, Ramriez discusses his views on the proposed 1% sales tax increase for the November ballot, the plan for Old Town Goleta, housing, and much more.
