Incumbent Meagan Harmon and challengers Nina Johnson, Jason Carlton and Zachary Pike debate in this first District 6 City Council forum.

Harmon, who was appointed to the council in 2019, faces her first election battle, taking on Johnson, the current senior to the assistant administrator.

They are joined by newcomers Carlton and Pike, both small business owners.

In this forum, the candidates talk about all the big issues facing Santa Barbara, including homelessness, State Street, economic development, Paseo Nuevo, equity, governance and leadership at City Hall.

District 6 encompasses the downtown area, including State Street, which is at the center of the conversation about economic redevelopment in the city.

The Santa Barbara Municipal Election will take place on Nov. 2. The mayor’s seat is on the ballot along with the council seats for District 4, District 5 and District 6.
