The votes are in for the holiday lights contest at the Santa Barbara Harbor, and the city’s Waterfront Department announced the winners on Monday.

Kyber Logue is the grand prize winner of the 2020 “Paradeless” Parade of Lights, which had more than 20 entries. Logue’s festive catamaran, Natural Mystic, also took first place honors in the sailboat category.

The city’s Waterfront Department had members of the public vote for their favorite decorations on social media, and then announced the winners of the best decorated boats in categories including commercial fishing, other commercial, power and sail.

Participating vessels had all kinds of lights and displays, including a giant toilet paper roll installation that reads “Wipe Out 2020,” a twinkling Christmas tree on top of a boat, and an illuminated Santa Claus.

“We decided to hold the ‘Paradeless’ Parade of Lights because the Parade of Lights is a beloved event in our community,” said department spokesman Christopher Bell. “With 2020 being such a challenging year, we thought it more important than ever to spread some holiday cheer.

“While we’re not asking people to come visit the harbor to see the holiday lights, if someone were to come down at night, they’d be able to see a number of vessels, bedecked in holiday lights, from the breakwater, city pier and rock groin at Sea Landing,” he continued.

Any owner occupying a slip in the harbor could decorate their vessel to win prizes, including annual waterfront parking permits, wine, and gift certificates.

Several popular events, including the annual Parade of Lights at the Santa Barbara Harbor, were canceled during the holiday season because of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health guidelines issued by the California Department of Public Health and the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department

In Santa Maria, the city recently announced winners of its 24th annual Lights, Sights, and Holiday Nights Holiday Decoration Contest. Residents set up jaw-dropping holiday light displays at their homes to win one of five awards: 2020 Best Decorated Rookie Residence, Country Christmas, Home Spun Holiday, California Dreamin’ and Holiday Hall of Fame.
