Senior No. 1 singles player Sophia Ostovany led the way for the Dons, sweeping her sets 6-4, 6-4 6-0 against Garces Memorial.

Every game counted, as the two schools tied sets 9-9, and the final game count also ended in a tie.

“The last match proved to be pivotal for the final score,” Santa Barbara coach Denny Echt said.  “Ostovany and (Garces’) Kelsey Abraham battled well and the points were physically demanding. It was Sophia’s mental toughness that got her over the hump along with creative shot making in tight situations.

:Always a great way to end a dual match with a great fight between strong competitors with both teams rooting each other on.”

Santa Barbara’s No. 3 doubles team of KK Casey and Ashley Walsten won two sets, and played their season-best, Echt said.

“Their 6-4 win against the Garces #2 team was huge,” Echt said. “KK closed the net off well today and took positive initiative on offense. She and Ashley were well grooved today.”

The Dons remain undefeated at 10-0 and have one match left, at Cabrillo.
