A standoff at a home in Santa Maria led to the arrest of a man sought on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on Thursday, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., police officers were dispatched to an assault with a deadly weapon and attempted to apprehend a subject in the 700 block of East Cypress Avenue, Lt. Russ Mengel said.
Police asked residents in the area to remain inside and for community members to stay out of the area while they worked to get the barricaded subject to surrender.
After several hours, the standoff ended with one person, identified as 42-year-old Joseph Tobin of Santa Maria, in custody, Mengel said.
No one was injured during the standoff.
A short time later, a resident alerted police about a burglary in process in the 1300 block of Eliza Drive after receiving a notification from a home surveillance system, Mengel said.
Officers surrounded that residence in an effort to nab the suspect.
