Santa Paula built a 26-7 halftime lead over visiting Bishop Diego on Tuesday night and went on to defeat the Cardinals, 47-32, in a non-league girls basketball game.
Clara McDonald topped the Bishop scorers with 13 and Ashlyn Oxton added five points.
“It was a physical game and we had our struggles with their press,” said coach Jeff Burich. “I was proud how we battled in the seconnd half and outscored them 25-21. We are hoping to get some players back from injuries and illnesses before we play Foothill Tech.”
The Cardinals (8-2) will host Foothill Tech on Thursday at 6 p.m.
