Santa Ynez pitchers Vic Heredia, Owen Hunt and Jackson Cloud combing for a three-hitter as the Pirates beat Cabrillo 4-1 in a Channel League game Tuesday.
“Our defensive effort was much better today and our pitchers controlled the strike zone,” Santa Ynez coach Warren Dickey said.
Mikey Gills’ two hits and an RBI led an eight-hit attack for the Pirates.
Blake Gregory, Fernando Cauldron and Spencer Gallimore had hits for the Conquistadors.
The game was, Dickey said, a “typical dogfight between Channel League foes.”
Santa Ynez improves to 4-4 in league play and 11-5 overall. Cabrillo is 0-8 and 3-11.
