Sarah Terry had the best weekend of her triathlon career.
The San Marcos alum captured the women’s title a Sunday’s Santa Barbara Triathlon coed short-course race a day after winning the long-course event.
Terry covered the 500-yard ocean swim, 6-mile bike and 2-mile run in 43 minutes, 52 seconds. She placed fourth overall.
Terry’s two days of competition are part of her preparation for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah, in October.
A pair of Goleta endurance sports athletes took the top two spots in the coed sprint. Steven Hunt came in first place at 40.03 and Edward Sweeney finished in 40.35. Andrew Maxwell, a former Santa Barbara triathlete who now calls Austin, Texas home, was third in 41.19.
In the Women’s Only sprint triathlon, Tracy Mehta of Santa Barbara was the winner in 49.01.
Local families took the top two spots in the Parent/Child Division. The Gelmans, father Adam and children Gavin and Jenn took first place, and the father-son team of Luke and Oliver Werkhoven was second. The children had to be under 14.
The duathlon (a 6-mile bike and 2-mile run) was won by Bill Dusting of Los Osos in 40.42, with Santa Barbara’s James Ballantine (41.35) and Hannah Terry (43.00) taking second and third.
In single-event races, Ryan Bullock of Redondo Beach won the 1-mile ocean swim in 22.50, and Curtis Pottle of Parker, Colo., captured the 5k run in 17.27.
