The Santa Barbara Community Rowing racing team capped off its sprint season with a strong performance at the River City Sprints in West Sacramento on Sunday, April 12.

“The weekend was full of variables that we don’t usually deal with on Lake Cachuma, but we knew this, so we prepared at practice,” SB Community Rowing coach Gracie Barbara said. “The most important thing for us when training is to be adaptable, that’s a word we use often.

“Adaptable to new bodies of water, adaptable to extreme weather changes, such as what we experienced this weekend. Crosswinds and downpours of rain while we were racing, but I’m proud our team adapted and still had fantastic results.”

Santa Ynez High sophomore Jacie Dingman led the way with a first-place finish in the U17 Women’s Single, crossing the finish line 30 seconds ahead of second place.

Meanwhile, Aidan Chase and Liam Moore of Alpha School earned the silver medal in the U16/17 Men’s Final.

The U15 Men’s coxed quad team of Will Allen (Goleta Valley Junior High), Campbell Allen (GVJH), Theo Jenkins (Alpha), Finn McCauley (Homeschool) and Zen Budden (Laguna Blanca) secured second place as well.

SB Community Rowing will be hosting a free youth “Learn to Row” event on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Cachuma Lake. Those interested can reach out to coach@rowsbc.org.
