San Marcos was the lone local squad to punch its ticket to the Santa Barbara Girls Volleyball Tournament of Champions semifinals on Friday in Santa Barbara.
The Royals, Santa Barbara High, Dos Pueblos and Bishop Diego are the local schools featured in the two-day tournament.
San Marcos began its day with a three-set sweep of La Jolla in the opening round, 25-23, 29-27, 25-17.
That victory set up a matchup with Santa Monica, which resulted in yet another sweep for the Royals, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18.
San Marcos will now square off against Saint Francis in the semifinals on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. inside J.R. Richards Gym.
If the Royals come out on top, they will take on either Buchanan or Edison for the championship on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. inside J.R. Richards Gym.
Meanwhile, Santa Barbara High, Dos Pueblos and Bishop Diego all dropped their opening round matchups.
The Dons fell to Clovis East (21-25, 23-25, 19-25), the Chargers couldn’t keep up with Buchanan (21-25, 12-25, 17-25) and the Cardinals suffered a loss to Marina (16-25, 22-25, 18-25).
Those results set up a crosstown matchup in the consolation bracket as Santa Barbara High swept rival Dos Pueblos later in the day, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
Blake Saunders led the Dons’ offense all day, putting away 15 kills against the Chargers on top of her seven kills against Clovis East.
Meanwhile, Bishop Diego’s consolation bracket run came to a close with a loss to Mission Prep in the first round of the consolation bracket.
The Dons will face off against Mission Prep at 9 a.m. on Saturday inside J.R. Richards Gym.
Dos Pueblos and Bishop Diego will round out their weekends by facing off against each other at 10:45 a.m. inside the Thunderhut.
