Local girls lacrosse players from Cate, Dos Pueblos, Lompoc and San Marcos played on Mission SB Blue and won it all in the HS Open A Division at the Adrenaline Challenge in Oceanside this weekend. The event was held at the 24-field SoCAL Sports Complex.
Mission SB Blue finished 5-0 overall through two days of action packed lacrosse. Mission won 11-4 in the final, besting San Diego Reapers for the championship.
Saturday the club was a perfect 3-0 in pool play outscoring their opponents 40-7 in three games. That gave them the #1 seed for the Sunday bracket play.
Sunday morning in the semifinals Mission SB Blue grinded to a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Chill to advance to the final with the Reapers, which they then won more easily in the seven goal victory.
The team was coached by Santa Barbara High School coach Jessica Gastelum and San Marcos High School coach Paul Ramsey.
“Teams were in from all over the country for this one and yet somehow it was two California teams in the final,” said club director Ramsey. “San Diego versus Santa Barbara, so to speak.”
“The girls played a complete tournament and our defense shut the other team down so often it really sparked all our offensive opportunities,” said Ramsey. “Effort and enthusiasm were sky high and that really helped the team get the trophy.”
Maia Holmes represented Cate School. Linnea Clapinski and Chloe Miller represented Dos Pueblos. Isabella Carreño was the lone player from Lompoc High School.
From San Marcos it was Victoria Aldana, Jocelyn Duncan, Gigi Mills, Maddie Kelly, Molly McCarter, Maddie Medina, Livanna Plourde and Mia Richmond rounding up the roster.
