The Santa Barbara Royals Varsity High School Ice Hockey team will bring a season’s worth of momentum to the ice this Saturday as they host their final home game of the year — and it couldn’t come with higher stakes.
The Royals face the Ventura County Poseidon in the LA Kings High School League semifinal playoff on Saturday, Feb. 21, with puck drop set for 4:45 p.m. at Ice in Paradise in Goleta.
Representing the entire Santa Barbara County, the Royals enter the matchup as the No. 1 seed, riding an outstanding 15–1 regular season record that established them as one of the league’s most dominant teams.
Consistent scoring, disciplined team defense, and strong goaltending defined their run through the regular season and earned them home-ice advantage when it matters most.
Standing in their way is the No. 4 seed Ventura County Poseidon, a battle-tested squad that has proven capable of upsetting higher-ranked teams and will be looking to spoil the Royals’ championship push.
With a spot in the league championship on the line, Saturday’s contest is expected to be fast-paced, physical, and intensely competitive. For the Royals’ senior players, it also marks their final opportunity to skate at home in front of local fans.
Community support has been a cornerstone of the program, and the team is hoping for a packed rink as they chase a league title and continue to showcase the growing strength of high school hockey on the Central Coast.
