Santa Barbara Swim Club standouts and San Marcos Royals Sierra Tallman and Taylor Steelman competed in the 2024 USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals in Texas in early December.

The duo, who are both seniors at San Marcos, joined over 800 of the fastest 18-and-under swimmers in the nation for the event.

“I was pleased with the girls’ performances at the National Level,” SB Swim Club head coach Aaron Schlemovitz said. “Both swimmers will now focus their training on their high school events as they prepare for their final San Marcos season this spring.”

Tallman, a San Diego State signee, competed in the 200 Individual Medley (2:03.76), 100 Butterfly (54.83), 200 Butterfly (2:01.26) and 100 Breaststroke (1:04:28).

She achieved personal-record times in the 200 Butterfly and the 100 Breaststroke while taking home 21st place in the consolation finals of the 200 Butterfly.

Steelman, who will be attending TCU next fall, competed in the 400 Individual Medley (4:29.96), 100 Backstroke (56.17), 200 Backstroke (1:59.84) and 500 Freestyle (4:55.42).

She picked up personal bests in the 100 and 200 backstroke races and ended the 500 freestyle in 30th place.
